Rec Center 1st & 2nd grade basketball is an instructional program designed to introduce boys and girls to basketball fundamentals. Players will learn dribbling, passing, shooting and defensive skills.

American Red Cross Lifeguarding

 

This is the American Red Cross course required for anyone age 15 (must be 15 by last day of class) or older wishing to become a certified lifeguard. This intensive course includes lifeguarding skills and strategies along with First Aid and CPR/FPR. A skills pre-test is required to take this course. Attendance at all sessions is mandatory. Ages 15 and older.

Archery

 

Instructor's from the Recreation Center's archery club teach the fundamentals of archery to boys and girls in grades 1 to 8. Classes are held at the Center's archery building located on North Maple Street at Mohler Church Road. Equipment is provided, archers with their own equipment are invited to bring it along. Grades 1 - 8.

Beginner Dance

 

You'll be dancing like the stars in the Rec's beginner dance class. Elements of hip hop, jazz, and ballet mixed with great music and loads of fun make this the perfect class for beginners. Dancers will learn a routine to perform for family and friends at the end of the session. Ages 7 - 12.

Beginner Lacrosse

 

This program for boys and girls in grades 3 - 6 will introduce young athletes to one of the nation's fastest growing sports. Lacrosse is a fast paced game that kids of all athletic abilities can enjoy. Directed by Ephrata High School Boys Lacrosse Staff. Equipment is provided. Grades 3 - 6

Elementary Floor Hockey

 

Future Ephrata Mounts, Hershey Bears and Philadelphia Flyers need to get their start somewhere. Boys and girls in grades 1 - 4 will learn shooting, passing, team offense, and team defense all while having lots of fun. Equipment is provided. Grades 1 - 4.

Free Weight Orientation

 

Class will include lifting techniques, spotting, safety procedures, and weight room etiquette and is taught by the Center's professional fitness staff. Ages 13-18, cardio & circuit orientation is a prerequisite

Girls Fast Pitch Softball

 

Registration for the Rec's Fast Pitch Softball Program will be taken until February 1. Girl's ages 8-14 are eligible. Age is determined as of January 1, 2008. Teams will be entered in 14 & under and 12 & under fast pitch divisions, 10 & under straight pitch and 8 & under t-ball. Activity fee is $49 for everyone. First practice will be held Saturday April 5 at 1:00 p.m. behind the Ephrata Middle School. Softball runs through June.

Hi NRG

 

Hide the remote, give the iPod a rest, hang up the cell phone. This new fitness class for 7 - 12 year olds is five weeks of fun and exercise. A new activity each week, sessions will include: circuit fun, kickboxing, obstacle course team challenge, muscle mania, boot camp and playground games. Get some Hi NRG in your kid's life.

Speed Camp for Athletes

 

On the playing field there is no substitute for strength and speed. Young athletes can elevate their game and prepare for the next season in this new program under the direction of former All-American football player and current Strength and Conditioning Specialist Tyler Trettin. Tyler's experiences at all levels of athletics, from youth to professional, provide the background for a program that will develop agility, flexibility, power and overall athleticism with innovative drills and circuits that make training fun. And the timing is perfect for the fall sport season. Try Speed Camp to make sports more fun and rewarding. Ages 11 - 14

Teen Cardio & Circuit Orientation

 

Learn how to use the Rec's new cardio and circuit machines in the Center's C & C training class. Class is taught by the Center's professional fitness staff with an emphasis on developing life long fitness habits. Class will include use of new equipment, workout techniques, safety and fitness room etiquette. This class is prerequisite for any students ages 13-18 wishing to use the Center's fitness and weight equipment.

Youth Volleyball

Dig, pass, set, spike and block in this fun introduction to volleyball for boys and girls in grades 5 to 8. Classes will cover basic skills, with more advanced techniques and scrimmages. Instruction will be conducted in conjunction with the Ephrata High School volleyball program, which fields teams for both boys and girls.
